Camden: The perfect weekend getaway

February 12, 2013

Whether you’re looking to treat your sweetheart to something special for Valentine’s Day or simply seeking a quick escape from the winter blahs, Camden offers the perfect respite for New Englanders and East Coast residents alike. An easy drive from New York and Boston, as well as points closer to home, our coastal Maine town provides a unique array of things to do all year long.

For any last-minute planners still in need of a special gift for Valentine’s Day, why not make a quick trip to Camden for a weekend stay at one of our historic B&Bs, and enjoy everything from a romantic dinner and decadent treats at one of the area’s award-winning restaurants to an acoustic concert at the beautiful Camden Opera House. Many of our inns are offering special packages that include candlelit dinners, massage, champagne, gourmet breakfasts and much more. And no matter where you choose to stay, you can rest assured that each innkeeper will treat you like family – pampering you and providing the utmost in personal attention, quality service, and care. It is these personal touches that make staying at our inns so special – whether it’s Valentine’s Day, a birthday, or any day!

If you’re interested in joining us for Valentine’s weekend, check out the packages and specials being offered by each of our inns, as each one is very unique in its offerings. Contact information and web sites for the Camden Premier Inns can be found here.

Local restaurants open during the winter season include: Fromviandoux, Hartstone Inn, Natalie’s, Long Grain, Francine, Fresh, The Waterfront, and Shepherd’s Pie (in Rockport). Advance reservations are suggested, so be sure to call ahead.
Then cap off the evening with an acoustic showcase at the historic Camden Opera House and enjoy a performance from some of today’s rising Indie artists in Real Music for Real Music Lovers. With unique instrumentation and powerful harmonies, it will be a great way to celebrate the special day.

Beyond Valentine’s Day, Camden still provides an abundance of things to do throughout the month of February and into March. On February 22-24, the Camden Opera House will become the home for the 26th Annual Camden Conference, a coming together of renowned experts and presentations on a variety of global topics ranging from terrorism and security to religion and regional issues. The conference features journalists, military and government personnel, academics, ambassadors, policy experts and practitioners for a weekend of informed discourse on world affairs. This year’s topic is “The Middle East -What Next?” For those unable to secure tickets for the Opera House, the annual event also streams live at satellite venues such as The Strand in Rockland and the Hutchinson Center in Belfast.

If enjoying the great outdoors is more your speed this time of year, the Camden Snow Bowl offers wonderful downhill skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing and tubing throughout the season. There are also numerous trails in the area, including Camden Hills State Park, for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Or lace up those skates and enjoy the ice on one of our local ponds or on our own community ice rink in the Camden Amphitheatre in the heart of town.

No matter what you choose to do or when you decide to come, Camden is just a hop, skip and a jump away, and provides the perfect winter escape for everyone. Let our inns pamper you and be your personal guides as you enjoy a spectacular Maine winter this season!
