A Winter Wonderland

December 31, 2013

As the holidays come to a close, our town is preparing for a wonderful winter season filled with community, friends and outdoor activities. Even though many visitors associate this area with the windjammers and warm breezes of summer, in many ways Maine truly comes alive in the winter. So far this year, Mother Nature has been kind enough to deliver over two feet of snow and an ice storm, and we couldn’t be happier!

The Camden Snow Bowl opened for the season right before Christmas, and local skiers and snowboarders have packed the slopes every day since. As the staff continues to add snow to the trails and prepares the tubing hill for opening this weekend, the options for outdoor fun continue to increase. Even if you simply walk through the snow lined streets of town, enjoy the tranquil view of the frosty harbor, or go for a snowshoe on one of the many trails in the area, there is something so special about the peacefulness and simple beauty of this time of year.

Whether you prefer to enjoy the beauty of the season indoors or out, there are many ways you can appreciate this winter wonderland. Plan an outdoor adventure, go ice skating, build a snowman, hit the slopes, try out a little tubing or sledding, or simply experience a little pampering and some downtime at one of our inns. Whether you’ve been out braving the winter elements or simply strolling the streets of town, there’s nothing better than relaxing by a cozy fire at the end of the day.

No matter what time of year you visit, Camden offers a wonderful array of events and things to do. As 2013 comes to a close, and we look forward to a New Year, we are very appreciative of all of the friends we have made and guests we have met from all over the world. We love sharing this special place we live, and we hope to introduce many more people to the wonders of Maine in 2014.

In the coming weeks, we will have even more to talk about as we prepare for Camden’s Winterfest celebration, the US National Toboggan Championships at the Camden Snow Bowl, and the world-renowned Camden Conference featuring foreign policy experts from around the globe.

Stay tuned and Happy New Year!
