Camden entertains the world in September

September 19, 2013

We are so lucky to be a part of such a creative community and have access to such a wonderful array of museums, theatres and opera houses offering an abundance of films, concerts, plays and exhibits throughout the year. However, did you know that Camden also holds its own international film festival every year, and that it’s ranked as one of the top 25 documentary film festivals in the world and one of the 12 best “small town” film festivals in the U.S.?

The time is upon us again when our little community will open its arms to filmmakers, industry professionals, and moviegoers from around the world. The 9th Camden International Film Festival, or CIFF, will take place on September 26-29, and will feature a unique combination of screenings, music, workshops and events at venues throughout Camden, Rockport and Rockland.

Established in 2005, CIFF has become New England’s most respected documentary film festival. According to its website, each year CIFF highlights work that represents a commitment to the craft behind nonfiction storytelling, showcasing over 80 films from around the globe. CIFF’s Points North Documentary Forum also provides both new and established documentary filmmakers with opportunities for professional development and creative inspiration. Past participants in Points North have included HBO, A&E IndieFilms, BBC, ZDF-Arte, Discovery, PBS, POV, ITVS, Tribeca Film Institute, Sundance Institute and Kickstarter.

Known as a filmmaker’s festival, CIFF offers a unique opportunity for attendees to get the inside scoop on each of the films, since at most of the screenings, the filmmakers are in attendance and available to talk with the audience afterward.

Tickets for individual films are $10. A festival pass allows access to all screenings and all events surrounding the Points North Documentary Forum. A VIP pass grants the same admissions as a festival pass, plus all special events and invitation-only parties.

With an abundance of things to do and the upcoming autumn color to enjoy, the Camden International Film Festival offers yet another opportunity to enjoy the character and beauty of our town and the people here.
